When it comes to dream stretches of sand, Redcar is rarely mentioned in the same breath as Sydney's Bondi beach.
But the Teesside resort is looking to snatch a world record from the Down Under destination for the most bikini-clad women ever photographed together.
The target they have to beat is 1,010, which was set last September.
However, a preview of the record attempt on Saturday, when just a few hardy souls shivered under grey skies, suggested the organisers have much to do between now and July 20 to ensure they do smash the record.
Residents are quietly confident their better halves won't let them down, though. Cllr George Dunning said: 'To venture to the cold beach of Redcar, they deserve all the credit they get.'
The event will raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
